Hub Director Honoured by the Learned Society of Wales
We are delighted to announce that FEMM Hub Director Professor Geraint Jewell has been elected as one of the new 2022 fellows of the Learned Society of Wales.
The Learned Society of Wales is the national academy for arts and scientists, bringing together experts from across all academic fields and beyond. The mission of the society is to promote excellence and scholarship, inspire learning and benefit the nation.
Due to the status of the Fellowship, all nominees go through a rigorous process of assessment. Professor Jewell was selected as a result of his outstanding achievements, professional standing and the impact his work has had on wider society.
Of the new fellows, President of the Society Professor Hywel Thomas said:
“The expertise of our new Fellows is outstanding. The range of research shows that Wales is well-placed to meet the environmental, technological, social, cultural, political and health challenges we face. The Society’s ability to bring together this talent allows us to initiate and influence important debates about how Wales, the UK and the world can navigate the turbulent waters we are in today.”
The Society’s Fellows are an essential part of the organisation and will help the Society to achieve its mission by contributing to the following aims:
Celebrate and recognise excellence in all scholarly disciplines and more widely .
Champion excellent research and researchers, catalyse ambition and inspire researchers, youth and society more generally.
Promote the advancement of learning, scholarship and education and their dissemination and application.
Act as an independent source of expert advice and to influence public discussion on matters affecting the research, scholarship, economy, languages and wellbeing of Wales and its people.
