New Paper Published in the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials
A FEMM Hub paper was recently published in the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials titled "A model to account for magnetic permeability changes resulting from edge damage caused by laser cutting in a high performance cobalt-iron alloy". The paper is an outcome from our Grand Challenge Project GC2.1.
Laser cutting is the mainstay of electrical machine stator core manufacture however it can introduce localized damage to electrical steels. In this paper, authors Dr Xiao Chen, Han Wu, Dr Jason Ede, Professor Geraint Jewell, Luke Jones and Dr Hassan Ghadbeigi present experimental measurements on magnetic edge damage effect in Cobalt-iron alloys due to laser cutting.
Highlights from the paper include:
Enhanced representation of edge damage effect on Cobalt-iron magnetization curves.
Double exponential term edge damage effect model to account for permeability changes.
Consider magnetic field strength and accumulative edge damage effects simultaneously.
Implementation for either multi-layer material model or continuous material model.
