In-process Monitoring in Electrical Machine Manufacturing
We are pleased to announce a new paper that has recently been accepted to the Journal of Engineering Manufacture titled ‘In-process monitoring in electrical machine manufacturing - a review of state of the art and future directions’.
Lead author Dr Divya Tiwari, a researcher on FEMM Hub work-packages GC 2.4 and GC 2.5 has provided a short summary of the paper below:
Even though high-volume electrical machine manufacture is dominated by automation, several manufacturing operations continue to involve manual intervention because the complexity of such operations makes them heavily reliant on high dexterity manual skills and experience. This paper presents a review of state of the art in process monitoring for manual operations in electrical machine manufacturing.
A structured survey of UK based companies revealed that a significant proportion of activities remain as manual or semi-automated. Although there is a paucity of literature in these areas in electrical machine manufacturing, advances in digital technologies can be leveraged to overcome this shortcoming.
Two case studies are included that present a framework for digitisation of a variety of manual manufacturing tasks, and demonstrates real-time capture, modelling and analysis of deformable linear objects in electrical machine manufacturing.
