FEMM Hub Team Gather in Glasgow for Latest QRM
On the 11th and 12th of September, the FEMM Hub Team gathered in Glasgow for their Quarterly Reseach Meeting.
Our Hub Director Professor Geraint Jewell opened the first day of the QRM with an update on overall hub progress as well as discussing our upcoming conference (for information on this free event please click here). Before we moved on to presentations from our team in Newcastle, NMIS and the University of Sheffield.
Following lunch, the team undertook EDI training looking at Inclusive Language. The session looked at inclusive language, why it matters, and how to use it. We learned about inclusive language across gender, race, sexuality, and disability as well as gender-neutral language. The session empowered us to talk more confidently about EDI issues
We began day 2 of the FEMM Hub QRM with a tour of the Power Networks Demonstration Centre. The PNDC was founded by the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Power Energy Networks and SSE Power Distribution, with support from Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Funding Council. It is a world-class research, development and demonstration venture and plays a key role in accelerating emerging technologies towards commercial deployment in a realistic, controllable environment. This is done through the use of a fully operational HV and LV demonstration network (operated either as a grid connected or as an islanded system), integrated with state-of-the-art communications and monitoring equipment, as well as other bespoke integrated functionality.
Following our return to the University of Strathclyde we continued with our research presentations before closing with lunch at 2pm.
