FEMM Hub Team Enjoy 1st QRM in Bristol
On the 5th of June, the FEMM Hub team gathered in Bristol for the Quarterly Research Meeting in the grand Wills Memorial Building. Kicking off the 2-day meeting, FEMM Hub Director Geraint Jewell welcomed the team to Bristol for the first time before we had our first presentation of the day from Newcastle's Dr Glynn Atkinson, Luke Sanders and Yusuf Ugurluoglu. Following the update from Newcastle, the team heard updates from our Grand Challenge 2 projects: Manufacturing high-performance coils and ultimate control (presented by Dr Dave Hewitt); Additive manufacturing of high-performance electrical machine windings (presented by Dr Nick Simpson) and manufacturing technologies for flexibility and customisation (presented by Dr Alexei Winter).
We began day 2 with a tour of the University of Bristol's facilities in the Queen's Building led by Dr Nick Simpson.
Following the tour, we moved back to the Wills Memorial Building to continue with the presentations starting with the cross-cutting themes: In-process tracking and tractability for zero-defect manufacture of electrical machines (presented by Dr Michael Farnsworth) and the Demonstrator (presented by Dr Glynn Atkinson). Following lunch, we finished our day with presentations from our aligned projects: Cut edge characterisation in advanced electrical alloy (presented by Dr Luke Jones) and From Nominal core properties to in-service performance (presented by Dr Xiao Chen).
We look forward to our next QRM taking place in September up at the University of Strathclyde!
