David studied and graduated with a MEng in Mechatronics & Robotics Engineering at the University of Sheffield in 2016. He then returned to the university in 2019 as a Research Assistant as part of the Digital Manufacturing research group. There he was involved in a variety of projects related to the collection and processing of information related to industrial processes with the goal of better understanding those processes. This required working with industrial partners, developing custom software tools and testing them on production data. Several of these aligned with his personal research interests in image processing, frequency analysis and event cameras.
In 2025, he started his PhD in developing a digital passport system to provide tracking and traceability for electrical machine parts which are used in a wide range of products. This is important as information on the product life cycle can be used to improve future versions of it and tracking is needed to better understand product use cases. Additionally it provides a list of users to contact in the event of a recall.
