The new Sangiacomo Presse T50CE received recently by the FEMM hub has successfully been used to produce its first parts. Adapting an existing tool for use with the machine, 50x10mm rectangles have been manufactured in 0.2 and 0.35mm silicon steel, the commercially dominant material used in the cores of motors, generators and transformers. The parts produced will be analysed in a custom SST (single sheet tester) designed for this sample geometry to characterise the energy loss associated with various process parameters. CoFe is a widely studied material in the Hub and will also be targeted for study in future work.
