Thermally Stable Electric Insulation Materials and Technologies via Wet Chemistry (ThermInsu)

ThermInsu is to further advance an innovative electrical insulation system with high temperature capability, which consists of a spectrum of nanostructured materials and processing technologies developed by the applicant. Our previous studies proved the insulations have outstanding thermal stability (withstanding up to 500°C) and moderate dielectric property, while their mechanical strength and adhesion to conductors are yet to match polymer enamels. The research will augment the insulation systems in three aspects: (i) improving the underachieved materials properties, (ii) enhancing the process adaptability to current manufacturing practice, and (iii) extending the technologies for insulating additively manufactured electrical components. We anticipate research outcomes will release more freedom for high performance e-machine design and manufacture.
