The FEMM Hub recently acquired a Resistance Welding Hot Crimping System from Amana Weld Tech.  Based in the Mappin Building, University of Sheffield the equipment will be available to all FEMM Hub members and industrial projects.

Hot crimping is achieved using a welding power supply and a weld head to deliver current and apply vertical force to simultaneously remove insulation and fuse the wires and sleeve into one, neat package. The equipment, with the size of the electrodes,  is capable of welding 25mm² cable with up to 240°C insulation (polyimide, polyurethane) coating. The machine will be primarily used by the FEMM Hub Team working on GCX2.

For more information on this crimping system, please contact GCX2 researcher Dr Divya Tiwari (d.tiwari@sheffield.ac.uk).
