We are pleased to announce that Carpenter Technology Corporation has joined the Future Electrical Machines Manufacturing Hub as a new industrial partner.

Carpenter Technology is recognised as a world leader in high-performance speciality alloy solutions for critical applications in the aerospace, defence, transportation, energy, industrial, medical, and consumer electronics markets.

Joining our initial group of 15 industrial partners which include Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace and Airbus, Carpenter Technology brings their expertise in the area of soft magnetics used in high-performance machine applications that require both high power density and ultra-high efficiency.

This newly established partnership between Carpenter Technology and the FEMM hub will have particular benefit to Grand Challenge Project 2.1 ‘From nominal core properties to in-service performance’ given its focus on developing processes and modelling of cobalt-iron-based cores and stacks for high-performance electrical machines.

Commenting on the new partnership, FEMM Hub Director Professor Geraint Jewell said,

“We are delighted to welcome Carpenter Technology to the Hub. They bring world-class expertise in the manufacture of high-performance soft magnetic materials and will greatly strengthen our activities in the manufacture of high-performance electrical machine cores.”

Nir Vaks, the Global Director of Carpenter Technology’s Soft Magnetics Centre of Excellence added,

“Since we began operations over 130 years ago, Carpenter Technology has always looked for valued partnerships. Sharing our industry experience and collaborating with our peers is at the heart of what we believe in. As a global market leader, we’re excited to continue our tradition of innovation by becoming a part of the FEMM hub.”
